Best Practices for Posting YouTube Videos
April 30, 2018 | Posted In: Video Marketing
As you learned in our last blog, 3 Steps to Successful Video Marketing, video is a major marketing opportunity for your business. By taking a few simple steps to optimize your video’s potential, you can easily maximize your sales.
Placing your content in front of the right people (your future customers) is achieved by making it easy to find. This is done through effective SEO (search engine optimization). At Square One Creative Group, we know this can sound intimidating, and it can be. That’s why we’ve broken it down into bite size pieces that any business owner can digest. In layman’s terms, here’s what you need to know before uploading videos to YouTube (which Google owns, by the way *cough, cough*):
- Use keywords. Include them in descriptions anywhere possible to make your videos searchable, that way people who want to see “cats riding vacuums” can find yours on that [weird] subject.
- Use short, descriptive titles. Keep titles under fifty characters to prevent Facebook and other platforms from shortening them. Also, these are another chance to use those keywords.
- Tell viewers what you want them to do. Include a compelling call to action that encourages people to buy, learn more, call or in some way connect with you, by the end of your video.
- Choose an appealing thumbnail. This is the photo/preview image shown that viewers click to launch your video. Choose one that attracts and entices viewers to click, and portrays your brand properly. (YouTube thumbnails should be 1280 x 720 pixels.)
- Tag, tag away. Tagging your video helps categorize it for search. YouTube gives you 120 characters to work with, so use them all! List tags in order of importance and relevance.
- Use closed captioning. Not only does closed captioning allow for more keywords that help bump you up on the search results, but it can make your video easier to understand without audio; valuable when uploading to other platforms, since 85% of Facebook video is watched without sound.
- Add it to a playlist. Adding your videos to a playlist makes them more searchable and increases viewer engagement (there’s that word again). YouTube makes creating playlists easy.
As a business owner, you know that efficiency maximizes profit. Now you can maximize your video’s effectiveness like an expert, driving your sales up and your time investment down.
